Citizenship and Human Rights Spring 2009

Citizenship & Human Rights Guiding Question:
How has the practice of non-violence helped modern society move closer to the ideals of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights?

Second Term Evaluations: March 5 to 9 2009Citizenship & Human Rights

Level 9 E.S.O.

Theme:Human rights:
Their evolution over time. Key people linked to their development. The United Nations and other NGO´s involved in this process.
This work will be an essay, written in groups of three students, according to the norms established for formative and summative evaluations.
It will be in the form of an oral presentation to their fellow students.
Material will be gathered from the relevant literature on the topic, source documents and research by the students.

Formative Activities:
Second week of January (12): presentation of the theme and structure of the assignment.
Third week of January (19): Working in the classroom with the chosen material.
Fourth week in January (26): Presentation of the 1st draft of the essay (contents) according to criteria A, B, C & D (formative).
First and second weeks of February (2 & 9): class time will be dedicated to completing this task.

Summative Activities:
Comprehensive essay (contents) (Knowledge,Concepts, Ability to Structure, Organize and Present) which will be submitted on February 16.
From evaluation week, work will be further explained and reviewed.

Note:
Wikipedia and Encarta should not be used.
Illustrations should be used.
Proper bibliographical notes should be used, as follows:
Smith, John, “A History of Spain” Barcelona 1999, Cairos publications.
It is essential that all content be relevant to the key questions and guidelines.
